Solar Farms & Land

Utility-scale opportunities for landowners and developers.

Turn under-utilised land into a long-term, index-linked income. We assess grid capacity, planning and biodiversity together with funding partners to bring viable schemes forward.

Suitability

Is your land a fit?

These are starting indicators, not hard cut-offs — every site is assessed individually.

Land suitable for a solar farm
Structures

How landowners get paid.

Most Common

Long-term lease

You lease the land to AEG Energy or a funding partner for a fixed term, typically 25–40 years, for an annual index-linked rent.

Alternative

Partnership / profit share

A structure where the landowner shares in the scheme's operating income rather than receiving a fixed rent.

Alternative

Outright option to purchase

In some cases, a developer may seek an option to purchase the land outright ahead of construction.

Process

From enquiry to energised.

PHASE 01
4–8 weeks

Feasibility

Desktop review of grid capacity, planning constraints, land classification and access.

Led by: AEG feasibility team
PHASE 02
3–9 months

Grid & planning

Formal grid connection application and planning submission, including environmental and biodiversity assessments.

Led by: AEG + planning consultants
PHASE 03
6–12 months

Financial close & construction

Funding partner confirmed, lease or partnership signed, and the scheme is engineered, procured and constructed.

Led by: AEG delivery team
PHASE 04
Ongoing

Operation

The scheme is energised and monitored for the life of the lease, with agreed rent or income paid on schedule.

Led by: AEG asset management
Biodiversity

Land use that gives something back.

Solar farm biodiversity and agricultural land

Solar farms typically leave 60–70% of the site as undisturbed ground, which we design for measurable biodiversity net gain — species-rich grassland, wildflower margins, hedgerow planting and pollinator habitat around and beneath the panels.

  • Grazing (typically sheep) often continues alongside the array
  • Wildflower and grassland management plans included in design
  • Independent ecological surveys inform the layout
  • Land typically returns to its prior use at the end of the lease

Solar farm and land opportunity

Challenge: a landowner sought long-term income from lower-yielding pasture with strong biodiversity outcomes.

Solution: AEG progressed feasibility, grid and planning with a funding partner, structured as a long-term lease.
